'Degrees of Change':climate change play

Here at CAFOD we've written a play for you to perform! It's all about sustainability and climate change - and it's about a group of young people facing up to the issues raised in different ways

So you want to raise awareness about climate change and how to take action to make your life more sustainable? Producing a play is a good way to get people thinking about the issues. This drama is called 'Degrees of Change' and it gets across challenging messages, but it's also a great story...How about putting on this play in your school or youth group?

How can I put on the play?
Get together with mates who are keen. Check out the play script at the link below. Then talk about the issues of climate change so that you’re all clear why you’re doing this. You can download discussion questions from the website to help your team unpack the different issues within the play.

  • Download the script and all stage directions and production needs
  • Share out the jobs: you’ll need a director, actors, stage manager, backstage crew, promoters/media and ‘front of house’ people.
  • Think about where you can perform your play to reach as many people as possible – if you plan to perform it in school, make sure your head teacher’s ok with this!
  • Think about a timescale for rehearsing, promoting the play, lighting and costumes…
  • Try to get a drama teacher on board; they’ll give you good advice.
  • The play suggests actions that people can take; so make resources available to help your audience take action afterwards.
  • Get rehearsing!
